Privacy Policy
In short: the App has no user accounts and no servers of ours, so it does not collect personal information about you. The only data that leaves your device is your location, which is sent to weather providers so the App can show you the light and weather for where you're shooting.
ShootLight (“the App”) is developed by Spearhead Media (“we,” “us,” “our”). This policy explains what the App does and does not do with your information.
Information the App uses
Location. With your permission, the App uses your device's location (and any locations you search for or save) to compute sun and moon positions and to fetch weather for those spots. Your coordinates are sent to the third-party weather providers listed below to retrieve conditions. We do not store your location on any server of ours, and we do not use it to identify, profile, or track you. If you deny location access, the App still works using a default location and any places you add manually.
Camera (AR Sky). The AR Sky feature uses your camera to overlay the sun and moon path on the live view. The camera image is processed on your device in real time and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. You can use the simulated “Preview” mode instead of the camera at any time.
Saved locations & settings. Locations you save and your preferences (units, reminders, home base) are stored only on your device. A short-lived weather cache is also stored on-device so the App keeps working during brief network drops.
Notifications. If you opt in, the App schedules local notifications (for example, great-sunset alerts) on your device. These are generated locally; no notification data is sent to us or anyone else.
Information we do NOT collect
- No accounts, names, emails, or user profiles.
- No advertising identifiers; no tracking, no ad networks, and no third-party analytics in the App.
- We do not sell, rent, or share information from the App.
This website
This section is about shootlightapp.com, not the App. When you first visit, the site asks which cookies you allow. Necessary is always on and only keeps the site working. Nothing else loads until you choose, and you can change your choice at any time with Your privacy choices at the foot of every page.
- Analytics (if you turn it on): Google Analytics counts visits, the pages viewed, and taps on the App Store button, so we can see how the site is used. Google's privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
- Marketing (if you turn it on): the Meta Pixel tells Meta that you visited, tapped the App Store button, or signed up for the email, so we can measure our ads and show ShootLight to people likely to want it. Meta's privacy policy: facebook.com/privacy/policy. California law can count this as “sharing” personal information for advertising; leaving Marketing off opts you out, and if your browser sends Global Privacy Control, Marketing stays off automatically. We never sell your information.
If you sign up for the ShootLight email, the name and email address you enter are stored in our email platform, GoHighLevel, and used only to send you ShootLight news. To be removed at any time, write to info@spearheadmedia.com.
Third-party services
To provide forecasts, maps, and radar, the App sends location coordinates to, and/or loads content from, these services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Apple Weather / WeatherKit and Apple Maps (MapKit): apple.com/legal/privacy
- Open-Meteo: open-meteo.com/en/terms
- MET Norway (met.no): met.no/en/About-us/privacy
- RainViewer (precipitation radar): rainviewer.com/api.html
- NASA GIBS (satellite imagery): earthdata.nasa.gov
Because some of these providers operate outside your country, your coordinates may be processed internationally.
Purchases
The App is a paid download. Payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store; we never receive or store your payment information. See Apple's privacy policy for how purchases are handled.
Data retention & your choices
All App data lives on your device. To remove it, delete the App. You can revoke Location or Camera access anytime in iOS Settings → ShootLight. Because we hold no personal data on our own systems, there is nothing on our side to delete on request, but if you have questions about your rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA/CPRA, contact us and we'll help.
Children's privacy
The App is rated 4+ and is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above will change, and the current version will always be posted at this URL.
